Linked Up on a Monday

  • Photographs taken by Frank C. Hirahara in Portland, Oregon from 1948 – 1954 of Japanese-Americans as they (re)settled into their community after being forced to live in the camps during the war.
  • Ted Travelstead’s Vlog. Finding a good new YouTube video feels like such a novelty these days. A series? A miracle.
  • “Chinmei” [珍名] in Japanese means “unusual name” and so a chinmei place refers to towns and cities that have an unusual name. The blog CHINMEI places around the world is run by Yasui Yoshiki (Ankyo) and in each post he writes about places around the world (Japan mostly) with a funny and/or unusual name (the joke usually only makes sense if you understand Japanese). I recommend the Japanese version of the site, but if you can’t read the 13th most commonly spoken language in the world, the English one will do. You can also find Ankyo’s computer purchasing history here.
